I’m just as comfortable out on farm in wellies, offering practical insights where they matter most. Over the years, I’ve helped clients assess enterprises, set up contract farming agreements, secure bank backing, and evaluate businesses. Some of the most rewarding projects have involved buying farms, developing new units, securing grants, and providing expert‑witness support. I also advise farmers and water authorities on water pollution, environmental compliance, and infrastructure requirements, including NVZ, SSAFO, ELM, and SFI schemes.

As sustainability has become a bigger part of farming, I’ve worked extensively with milk buyer codes of practice, carbon footprint assessments, verification, and interpretation. This area shouldn’t feel daunting — reducing emissions often goes hand‑in‑hand with improving profitability. It’s simply a new way of measuring success, built on familiar management principles once you understand them.

Away from work, I spent 30 years playing competitive hockey. While I’ve hung up my stick, that same drive and energy still shape how I work. These days, I’m more likely to be out walking the dog or enjoying a relaxed ski trip — a gentler pace, but the same enthusiasm.
